Three Tablets of the Law
שלוש לוחות הברית
Mixed media (rope, rusty iron, plastic hangers), 1996
A dirty old rope hammock. Into the washing machine. Would they have thrown it out if it were in good condition? It came out of the machine in three pieces. I hung it on three plastic frames. The two tablets of the Law became three. G'edula Ogen has a sculpture in stone in the garden of the Hadassah Ein Karem hospital, the three tablets of the Law. Why three? One has to be footnotes, or commentary. Or the commentator. Herself. I found a box of rusty iron 'things' in an empty lot. Attached to the rope fabric they look like cuneiform. The writing on the tablets. Done. At least, for now.
